You can spend one week in Raja Ampat without changing islands every night. For this route, book six
nights in a Premier overwater bungalow at Papua Paradise Eco Resort on Birie Island. These have air
conditioning, a bathtub looking out to sea, and a deck that will claim a fair amount of your time.
Arrive in Sorong by late morning on day one for the resort’s afternoon boat transfer, then settle in
before dinner.
How to Spend One Week in Raja Ampat
Spend day two getting acquainted with the house reef alongside a snorkeling guide, with a second
outing only if you feel like it. Choosing sites around your swimming confidence matters here, since
currents can change the experience. Leave time to sit on the deck and watch the water; you came a
long way to have this view.
On day three, make the early start for a guided search for Wilson’s bird-of-paradise on neighboring
Batanta. A boat ride and a forest walk bring you to a hide, where you wait for the birds to appear.
Sightings are never guaranteed, and the trail includes steep ground. You can lodge a complaint about
the alarm clock over breakfast, then spend the afternoon resting or at the spa.
Give day four to the Fam Islands, with snorkeling stops and a walk up to the Piaynemo viewpoint. It’s
a full day on the water, so take sun protection, a dry bag, and enough enthusiasm for the steps. Let the
boat team choose reef stops around tides and weather rather than insisting on a particular site you
saw online.
Visit Arefi village with a local guide on the fifth morning. Some resort staff come from here, which
gives the visit a connection beyond your vacation; ask before photographing anyone. Later, a sunset
boat trip along Batanta’s mangroves offers a chance to watch hornbills arriving to roost. Keep day six
free for kayaking, a massage, or another guided snorkel, with plenty of time left at the bungalow.

Return to Sorong on day seven. Under the resort’s published schedule, the boat leaves at 7 a.m. and
onward flights should depart no earlier than 10:30 a.m.; reconfirm both before booking. Reserve the
Premier category specifically, as the other bungalow categories use natural ventilation. Tell the resort
whether you snorkel or scuba dive, since package minimum stays differ. If you’re considering adding
scuba diving, my guide to diving in Indonesia explores destinations for different experience levels. Divers
should agree the final dive time with their operator and leave the required interval before flying, keeping
day six free of scuba. If you’re planning one week in Raja Ampat, get in touch and I’ll design the stay,
excursions, and transfers around your interests and preferred pace.
